Phys-Chem Wastewater Treatment Plant

Our Mission

The mission of our Department is to collect and provide proper treatment of residential, commercial, and industrial wastewater for the lowest practical cost to the residents and ratepayers in a prudent, reasonable and responsible manner.

Company Profile

The Wastewater Treatment Plant currently treats an average flow of 35 mgd. The design capacity is 48 mgd. Peak flow is 85 mgd. Secondary treatment is accomplished by 28 granulated activated carbon beds. The beds act as physical separators to retain solid particles, chemical adsorbers of dissolved organics, and deep in the beds, biological activity. The Plant reduces priority pollutants reaching the Niagara River from 800 pounds to only 12 pounds per day, meeting the most stringent municipal permit in the country. It is also the largest Phys-Chem Carbon Treatment Plant in the country.
