APPROVAL PROCESS
The Niagara Falls Water Board Wastewater Facilities Monitoring and Compliance Division maintains the responsibility of permit and regulatory issues at the facility. The division is now in its twelfth year after the program was granted United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) approval in 1985. During that time numerous discharge permits have been issued ranging from domestic sanitary waste to Superfund/CERCLA remedial projects. Throughout the approval process, the Niagara Falls Water Board works in close concert with the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) to ensure compatibility with the Niagara Falls Water Board’s treatment works and that pertinent regulatory issues are addressed. The use of NYSDEC's Technical Guidance Series "Guidance for Acceptance of New Discharges" streamlines the approval process. The length of the approval process from start to finish varies depending on the nature of the wastestream. However, in general, the entire process requires two (2) to four (4) weeks. The initial step in the process will require a letter, which contains the following information. Company Name:
