All positions at the Niagara Falls Water Board are governed by the New York State Civil Service Commission and the Taylor Law. Most positions are competitively filled based on a Civil Service Commission administered exam. Current Job Openings:


Accounting Positions: The Niagara Falls Water Board is seeking qualified applicants for accounting positions. The work involves specialized professional accounting work including, but not limited to, supervision of payroll, some HR functions, and Utility Billing functions. The work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Financial Services. A Bachelors degree with major in Accounting or Finance with minimum two (2) years experience required. Experience with GL, AR/AP, PR, HR, and financial reporting is necessary. Salary ranges from $34,415 to 43,359 after four (4) years. The Niagara Falls Water Board (NFWB) is accepting applications for the following positions:

1.Chief Operator Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP). The position holder will be responsible for supervising the NFWB Wastewater Treatment System. Qualified candidates will exercise supervision over operating, maintenance and facilities staff.

2.Control Maintenance Mechanic - This position involves complex mechanical maintenance, installations and supervisory work involving the installations, overhauls, repairs, testing and operating a wide variety of mechanical equipment in the NFWB Wastewater Treatment Plant and Water Plant.

3.Senior Instrument Technician - This position involves highly skilled instrumentation shop and field work. Responsibilities include disassembling and assembling, trouble shooting, cleaning, adjusting, repairing, testing and calibrating electrical, hydraulic, electronic, pneumatic and mechanical precision measuring gauges, indicating, recording and control devices.

Civil Service Exams


The City of Niagara Falls Civil Service Department administers examinations to fill "competitive-class" positions with the Niagara Falls Water Board.

  • Each examination has specific minimum qualifications and residency requirements that must be met in order to take the exam.
  • As the exam fee is non-refundable, you are urged to file only for those exams for which you are clearly qualified.
  • The City of Niagara Falls does not maintain a file of transcripts or special licenses. Therefore, if a degree or special license is required, it must be submitted with the application.
  • Applications are available at Niagara Falls City Hall, 745 Main Street, Room 14. Office hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
  • Once complete, applications must be filed in person at Niagara Falls City Hall.
