All positions at the Niagara Falls Water Board are governed by the New York State Civil Service Commission and the Taylor Law. Most positions are competitively filled based on a Civil Service Commission administered exam. Executive Director (non-competitive)

The Niagara Falls Water Board is seeking applicants for the position of Executive Director. The NFWB is an independent NYS Public Benefit Corporation that owns and manages the water, wastewater and stormwater systems in the City of Niagara Falls, NY. This position plans and directs activities of the organization on behalf of a five member water board. The incumbent exercises independent judgment in overseeing a $6M annual capital budget, a $24M O&M budget and approximately 100 employees. Qualifications: Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in engineering, science, public administration, management or a closely related field; professional utility supervision, administrative and financial experience, preferably including experience in water and wastewater; or any equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Wastewater Plant Operator

The Niagara Falls Water Board is seeking a Waste Water Plant Operator to work at its Municipal Waste Water Plant. The Operator works 8-hour rotating shifts and is responsible for the efficient operation of a Grade 4 Physical/Chemical Waste Water Treatment Plant. The individual must possess a Grade 3 or 4 Wastewater Certificate issued by the DEC (or transferable equivalent from another State).  In addition, the candidate must possess either an Associates degree and 1 year experience working in the operation and maintenance at a Grade 3 or Grade 4 Wastewater Treatment facility or graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and 3 years experience at a Grade 3 or Grade 4 Wastewater Treatment facility.  The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a New York State Civil Service position and permanent appointment would be subject to passing of a Civil Service Examination. Water Plant Operator

The Niagara Falls Water Board is seeking a Water Plant Operator to work at its Michael C. O'Laughlin Municipal Water Plant. The Operator works 8-hour rotating shifts and is responsible for the efficient operation of a conventional Type 1A Water Treatment Plant. The individual must possess a Grade IA or IIA Public Water System Operator Certification issued by NYSDOH. Additional requirements:  Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and 4 years experience at a Water Treatment facility (2 years of which must be in plant operations). The salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. This is a NYS Civil Service position and permanent appointment would be subject to passing of a Civil Service Examination.   • As the exam fee is non-refundable, you are urged to file only for those exams for which you are clearly qualified.
  • The City of Niagara Falls does not maintain a file of transcripts or special licenses. Therefore, if a degree or special license is required, it must be submitted with the application.
  • Applications are available at Niagara Falls City Hall, 745 Main Street, Room 14. Office hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
  • Once complete, applications must be filed in person at Niagara Falls City Hall.
